A giant toy "Curving Block" in Anyeong-dong, Daejeon.
SukChulMok Studio designs huge block-shapedbuildings for employee welfare spaces of baby products companies. The buildingwith PTFE tents on the concrete walls maintains the unique flexibility of thetent and exhibits geometric shapes in exquisite combination with concrete. Thespace is used for relaxation and filming purposes.
a place of communication between spaceand space
Anyeong-dong, Daejeon, is an industrialcomplex with developed logistics and distribution industries adjacent toInterchange (IC). In this place, where there are many factory buildings ofcompanies that handle various items such as food and cosmetics, client ask forspace design that allows employees to take pictures of products developed bythe headquarters or to relax and creative activities.
The site, which used to be an empty spacebetween the buildings used by the existing headquarters, consists of a privateoutdoor garden obtained by placing the building forward on the side of theroad, a high ceiling hall inside the space, Cyclorama wall used as a productshooting studio.

The building is characterized by themovement of connecting inside and outside through a circulation created by twoentrances formed between the slightly warped gaps in the semicircular mass.
The building, which originated from anearly concept of toy blocks, was limited to four materials: red bricks,concrete, tents, and steel to maintain the purity of the shape, and tried tostick to its refined image by hiding functional elements. In addition, a space containing thesame values, such as a 3m high reference point where the material is separatedand a half-dividing gesture, provides a two-dimensional optical illusion in aparticular view.SukChulMok say "An optical illusion effect occurs if you deviate fromgeneral spatial perception or perspective"
The PTFE tent and concrete material show aunique combination of textures. The two materials that are exquisitelyconnected create a perfect mass and show a harmony of different textures.Furniture made of various iron textures is placed everywhere on red bricks onthe floor, enriching the image of the physical properties in the space.
대전 안영동에 얹혀진 거대한 장난감 “Curving block”
석철목 스튜디오는 유아용품 전문기업의 직원복지 공간을 위한 거대한 블럭 모양의 건물을 설계합니다. 콘크리트 벽체에 PTFE 천막을 사용한 건물은 천막 특유의 유연성을 유지하며 콘크리트와 절묘하게 결합된 모습으로 기하학적 형태를 보여줍니다. 공간은 휴게공간 겸 촬영장을 목적으로 사용됩니다.
공간과 공간 사이의 소통의 장
대전 안영동은 ic (Interchange)가 인접한 지역으로 물류와 유통업이 발전된 산업단지입니다. 식품이나 화장품 등의 다양한 종목을 다루는 기업의 공장건물들이 즐비한 이곳에 클라이언트는 본사에서 개발하는 제품을 촬영하거나 직원들의 휴식과 창의적인 활동을 왕성히 할 수 있는 휴게공간 겸 촬영장을 의뢰하게 됩니다.
기존의 본사가 사용하는 건물들 사이의 빈 공터 였던 프로젝트 사이트는 건물을 도로변 쪽 전진 배치하면서 얻은 프라이빗한 야외 정원과 내부 공간의 높은 천정이 있는 홀 과 촬영장으로 사용될 호리존으로 구성되어 집니다. 사이 정원과 스튜디오건물은 소통의 매개체로서 각 부서의 직원들간의 유대감을 긴밀히 하도록 유도합니다.
개방과 폐쇄사이를 매끄럽게 하다.
파빌리온은 반원형 기둥에서 살짝 비틀어진 틈사이로 2개의 입구가 형성되고 그 순환경로를 통해 안과 밖을 연결해주는 제스쳐가 특징입니다. 초기 컨셉인 장난감 블럭에서 비롯된 건물은 형상의 운치를 유지하기위해 적벽돌, 콘크리트, 천막과 스틸. 네가지 재료로 제한 하였고 하드웨어적인 요소들을 가리우면서 정제된 이미지를 고수 하게 됩니다. 또한 재료가 분리되는 3m높이의 기준점과 반을 가르는 듯한 제스쳐와 같이 동일한 값이 연속되어지는 공간은 특정 뷰에서 이차원의 착시적 효과를 가져다 줍니다. 석철목은 “일반적인 공간지각이나 원근감에서 벗어났을 때에 착시효과를 얻어낸다”고 말합니다.
PTFE 천막과 콘크리트 소재는 독특한 질감의 합을 보여줍니다. 절묘하게 맞닿아 연결되는 두 소재는 하나의 완벽한 덩어리를 만들어 내며 서로 다른 질감의 조화를 보여줍니다. 바닥에 깔린 적벽돌 위에 갖은 철들의 질감으로 만들어진 가구들이 곳곳에 놓이면서 공간안의 물성 이미지를 풍부하게 합니다.
